⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Robert Bruce Banner
Age: 45
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Canon Point: Shortly before Age of Ultron begins. Banner is working with the other Avengers on trying to find Loki's scepter

Background: MCU Wiki entry

Personality: Bruce is a nonviolent person. He's the only avenger who has even the slightest tendancy to cower when faced with violence. He's the kind of person who would be perfectly happy just living an ordinary life where nothing exceptional happened. Go to work and do science, come home to loving family. So it's really unfortunate what the gamma-ray accident did to him.

Bruce views "the other guy" (as he refers to the Hulk.) as something of a partially trained but still dangerous animal. It protects him from all threats, including himself, but it also has no concept of restraint or self-control. He rarely worries too much about his own life, since the Hulk will save him, but he knows that if the Hulk shows up, people's lives are in danger, which obviously is something he doesn't want.

Compounding Bruce's stress at having this terrible burden put upon him is how ever since it happened, the shortsighted and power hungry have wanted to control the Hulk, to tame it and understand it for their own ends. No one understands better than Bruce that the Hulk cannot be tamed or controlled. He sees it as more of a force of nature, like an earthquake or a hurricane, than a person. Then someone tries to catch him and contain the Hulk in a nifty cage or something, it doesn't work, and people die. All this adds up to make Bruce a very private person who prefers to not attract too much attention to himself. He does his best to avoid complications with people, in favor of maintaining inner peace.

The Avengers have been good for him at combating his increasing desire for isolation. Tony represents a fellow "mad scientist" that is smart enough to keep up with his ideas. Thor (and to a lesser extent Tony again) is someone who can match the Hulk physically at least for a while, limiting any potential rampages. And Natasha...aside from being the one person who has even semi-reliably been able to get the Hulk to calm down enough to revert to Bruce Banner, Natasha is someone Bruce cares about a lot.

Were they both normal people, he might actually consider pursuing her romantically, but as it is he can't for a number of reasons. The first is that he's not very good at reading people, so he isn't confident in guessing how receptive she might be to the idea. The other is that he doesn't think he deserves it. He sees himself as a ticking time bomb that is eventually going to explode and hurt a lot of people. He doesn't want to make someone else part of that life, so even if she WERE to express a returned interest (which she will), he doesn't feel like he could accept it.

Because he doesn't see an end. He has no idea how to get rid of the Hulk. He's a freak. At one point, he felt so hopeless about it that he tried suicide, but the Hulk "protected" him from even that. With that option denied to him, he's done his best to keep his act together and devoted his life to helping people however he can, in a desperate attempt to build up good karma that will make up for when (not if) the Hulk finally makes a mess. He doesn't feel like it's enough, but it's the best he's come up with.

Any personality section for Bruce Banner would be incomplete without a section for the Hulk. The Hulk is just really, really angry. All the time. Constantly. If the Hulk stops being angry for any meaningful amount of time he turns back into Bruce. The Hulk is rage given physical form, and all he wants to do is tear up everything around it. That said, the Hulk IS capable of coherent thought. He speaks (on rare occasions), he can tell friend from foe (usually), and as long as Bruce purposefully unleashed the Hulk, he will usually act with intent and direction. He smashes, but he smashes specific things. The Hulk's main goal is to protect Bruce Banner, though, because Bruce is weak and pathetic. The most surefire way to bring him out is to harm Bruce directly. If you are a clear thinking individual you will avoid doing this at all costs.

Abilities: Bruce is incredibly intelligent, being a doctor of Biochemistry, Nuclear Physics, and Gamma Radiation, but that's not what most people know him for. Bruce's most well known "trick" is that when he gets injured or unduly upset and loses control of his emotions, he transforms into a green giant known as The Hulk, who is fueled by rage, incredibly violent, and has shown no effective upper limit to his strength. The Hulk shrugs off all but the strongest of attacks, recovers from injuries almost immediately, leaps hundreds of feet through the air, rips steel apart like paper, and only grows stronger the angrier he gets. The Hulk ALSO is so furious that he isn't entirely in control of his actions anymore. As long as he voluntarily transformed, Bruce can sort of aim the Hulk at a specific task, but otherwise the Hulk just tears apart the world around it in mindless rage.

Alignment: If I gave any answer other than Sosyne, I'd expect you to reject my app.

Other: Puny Mods. Hulk Smash.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Sample: A short thread from the test-drive in which the Hulk wrecks some shit, another thread from the test-drive in which Bruce talks about science for a bit, and finally a generic testdrive. I think between those my bases should be covered.
